The changeup of designers was in full swing in 2015. All still in shock from the last two surprising departures, with Raf Simons leaving after 3 1/2 years after joining Dior and Alber Elbaz who waved goodbye to Lanvin after 14 years of his loyal services. Two designers who were adored and have not replaced yet. Before all that, now going back to the many other changes that have shaken up the fashion world. The all white collection by Alexander Wang at Balenciaga, signed his departure. The label belonging to Kering group chose an outsider, a stranger to the public Demna Gvasalia, 34, who trained at Louis Vuitton and Martin Margiela before designing, in 2014, his own revolutionary and trendy label, Vêtement. His first collection was revealed in February.Another name to remember Massimo Giorgetti, named at Emilio Pucci. The Italian took over the reins of the Florentine house with the desire to give it a new romantic modernity. He presented his first collection in Milan in September.A new romanticism can be found at Gucci, thanks to, Alessandro Micchele: the revelation of the year! A 360 degree turn executed with success. In six months he was lauded and praised by all the press.Roberto Cavalli, gave over the controls (reluctantly?) to Peter Dundas. A new positioning desired by the brand’s new owner group and a very first fashion show presented in October in Milan.Schiaparelli is trying to regain a prominent place in the couture world. After Marco Zanini, it’s the turn of the Frenchman, Bertrand Guyon, to try and revive the wild creativity of its founder Elsa.At Hermès, the designer changes, but the spirit stays the same; a discreet luxuriousness that Nadège Vanhee-Cybulski encourages with softness and modernity. An eagerly awaited and fantasized return of John Galliano to Maison Margiela. The designer seems to have learnt his lesson to be more discreet or even invisible...Nina Ricci has focused on the young Guillaume Henry, who settles in and takes on the brand. Just like the young duo took over the reins of the Carven house, Alexis Martial and Adrien Caillaudaud diffuse their youth into this French house. Youthfulness is confirmed at Courrèges with another duo, Sébastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant, founder of the label, Coperni. A credible first collection for this brand that is trying to come back with a very first show presented during Paris Fashion Week. And to end this game of musical chairs, note that Donna Karan, the high priestess of American fashion has decided to withdraw from the world of fashion, keeping the name of her orphan house. As for her second line, style management has been given to young designers of the label Public School.A changeup trying to prove that a designer today is interchangeable and that we are in the era of fashion marketing?!!!
